The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, just off the National Mall in Washington, D.C., is the nation's memorial and museum documenting the Holocaust. Opened in 1993, its architecture evokes the experience of the camps, and its permanent exhibition leads visitors through the history of the Nazi genocide. Admission is free and it draws large numbers of visitors each year.
