The Big Duck
A duck-shaped building that named an idea
The Big Duck is a duck-shaped building on Long Island, New York, built in 1931 by a duck farmer to sell ducks and eggs. So iconic that architects coined the term "a duck" for any building shaped like the product it sells, it is a National Register landmark and a touchstone of American vernacular and novelty architecture.
