St. Elmo
One of Colorado's best-preserved ghost towns
St. Elmo, high in the mountains of central Colorado, was a gold- and silver-mining town of some 2,000 people in the 1880s. When the railroad pulled out in the 1920s the town died, but its wooden Main Street survived remarkably intact and is now one of the best-preserved ghost towns in the state, a popular stop for visitors to the Sawatch Range.
