Shaniko

Shaniko, on the high plateau of north-central Oregon, was once the "Wool Capital of the World," a railhead where millions of pounds of wool were shipped around 1900. When a rival rail line bypassed it, the boom collapsed. A handful of residents remain among the old hotel, schoolhouse, and water tower on the wide, windswept tableland.
