The West Coast's modern-art flagship
The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art was the first museum on the West Coast devoted to modern and contemporary art, founded in 1935. A dramatic 2016 expansion made it one of the largest modern-art museums in the country, with a rippling white facade and a deep collection of painting, sculpture, photography, and design.
