The Northwest Seaport Alliance combines the harbors of Seattle and Tacoma on Puget Sound into one of the largest container gateways on the U.S. West Coast. The deep, sheltered fjord-like waters of the sound give the ports natural depth, and their northerly position offers the shortest sailing distance from the major ports of East Asia.

Together the two harbors handle a huge share of the trade between the Pacific Northwest and Asia, moving containers, grain, and other cargo inland by rail. The ports formed the alliance in 2015 to compete jointly rather than against each other.
