The desert proving ground for nuclear tests
The Nevada National Security Site — long known as the Nevada Test Site — is a vast restricted federal reservation northwest of Las Vegas where the United States conducted hundreds of nuclear weapons tests between 1951 and 1992. Its cratered desert, including the Sedan Crater and rows of aboveground-test remnants, records the atomic age in the landscape itself. The site remains a controlled national-security facility.
