The Natchez Trace Parkway
A 444-mile road along an ancient trail
The Natchez Trace Parkway runs 444 miles (715 km) from Natchez, Mississippi, to near Nashville, Tennessee, following the route of an ancient trail used by Native Americans and later "Kaintuck" boatmen walking home up the river valley. A National Park Service scenic road free of commercial traffic, it passes forests, fields, burial mounds, and stretches of the sunken original trace.
