Mount Weather
FEMA's underground emergency operations center
Mount Weather, in the Blue Ridge Mountains of northern Virginia, is the site of a major federal emergency-operations facility with a large underground complex. Officially the Mount Weather Emergency Operations Center, run by FEMA, it is widely reported to be a key "continuity of government" site — a hardened location where federal leadership could relocate during a national catastrophe. The site is closed to the public and details of its interior remain restricted.
