Lucy the Elephant

Lucy the Elephant is a six-story, elephant-shaped building in Margate City, New Jersey, built in 1881 to attract buyers to a seaside real-estate development. The oldest surviving example of "novelty" or zoomorphic architecture in the country, the tin-and-wood pachyderm has served as a tavern, a summer home, and a tourist draw, and is now a National Historic Landmark visitors can climb inside.
