The Lincoln Highway

The Lincoln Highway, conceived in 1913, was the first road across the United States, running roughly 3,389 miles (5,454 km) from Times Square in New York to Lincoln Park in San Francisco. Predating the numbered highway system, it stitched together local roads into a coast-to-coast route and helped spark America's car culture and the good-roads movement long before the Interstates.
