The copper "ghost city" clinging to a mountain
Jerome, Arizona, was a booming copper town of some 15,000 people perched on the steep slopes of Cleopatra Hill, until the mines closed in the 1950s and the population crashed to near zero. Billed as "America's largest ghost city," it was later revived by artists and now survives as a tiny, vertiginous hillside town of galleries and old mining buildings.
