The genealogical archive inside a mountain
The Granite Mountain Records Vault is a records-storage facility bored deep into a granite canyon wall near Salt Lake City, built in the 1960s by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to preserve the world's largest collection of genealogical records. Behind massive doors engineered to withstand a nuclear blast, billions of pages of microfilmed family-history records are kept at a stable temperature. The vault is closed to the public.
