Montana's best-preserved ghost town
Garnet, in the mountains of western Montana, was a gold-mining town of around 1,000 people around 1900. It faded quickly as the gold ran out and a 1912 fire destroyed much of the business district. Managed today by the Bureau of Land Management, it is considered Montana's best-preserved ghost town, with dozens of weathered log and frame buildings.
