Denver International Airport
The largest airport in North America by land area
Denver International Airport (DEN) sprawls across the high plains northeast of Denver, Colorado, covering about 53 square miles - the largest airport by land area in North America and one of the largest in the world. Its white, peaked tent-like roof, meant to echo the snow-capped Rockies on the horizon, is among the most recognizable terminal designs in the country.
The sheer size leaves room for long, widely spaced runways that keep operations flowing even in the strong winds and heavy snows of the plains, and space to grow for decades. As a central hub roughly midway across the country, it is one of the busiest airports in the world by passenger traffic.
