Historic Columbia River Highway

The Historic Columbia River Highway, built in the 1910s through the Columbia River Gorge in Oregon, was the first planned scenic roadway in the United States. Winding past a string of waterfalls — most famously Multnomah Falls — its graceful stone-arch bridges and cliff-carved curves made it a landmark of both engineering and landscape design.
