The Blue Ridge Parkway

The Blue Ridge Parkway winds 469 miles (755 km) along the crest of the southern Appalachians, linking Shenandoah National Park in Virginia with Great Smoky Mountains National Park in North Carolina. A National Park Service road built largely during the New Deal, it is designed purely for slow, scenic driving — no commercial traffic, frequent overlooks, and sweeping views of ridgelines that fade into blue haze. It is one of the most visited units of the National Park System.
