Lions guarding a great encyclopedic collection
The Art Institute of Chicago, fronted by its famous pair of bronze lions on Michigan Avenue, is one of the oldest and largest art museums in the United States, drawing roughly 1.8 million visitors a year. Its collection is renowned for Impressionism and American art, including Grant Wood's American Gothic, Georges Seurat's A Sunday on La Grande Jatte, and Edward Hopper's Nighthawks.
